A well-earned promotion for Colby Thomas
The Las Vegas Athletics have called up their No. 2 prospect, Colby Thomas, following a standout run in Triple-A and a strong showing with Team USA at the Premier12. The 24-year-old outfielder homered against both Chinese Taipei and Japan during the super round, showcasing his power on the international stage.
Triple-A dominance in 2025
With the Las Vegas Aviators, Thomas posted a .296/.360/.903 slash line, along with 17 home runs, 70 RBIs, and 7 stolen bases in 304 at-bats. He was named the 2024 Organizational Player of the Year, after hitting 31 homers and driving in 92 runs across Double-A and Triple-A. His blend of power, speed, and energy makes him a key piece in the A’s rebuild.
From Mercer to the Majors
Drafted 95th overall in the third round of the 2022 MLB Draft, Thomas starred at Mercer University before quickly rising through the minors. His promotion marks a major milestone in a career that’s been defined by consistent production and elite tools.
A rookie core built for the future
Thomas joins a dynamic group of rookies already making waves in Las Vegas:
- Jacob Wilson: Batting .359 with 101 hits and a .908 OPS; AL Rookie of the Year frontrunner
- Nick Kurtz: Power-hitting first baseman with multiple walk-offs and a .965 OPS since June
- Denzel Clark: Elite defender with +10 Outs Above Average in just 24 games
- Max Muncy: Improving at third base with 4 home runs in June and a .785 OPS
Together, they form one of the most exciting young cores in baseball, giving the Athletics a foundation to build around for years to come.
