Luis Robert Jr. hits injured list: White Sox face tough decisions ahead of trade deadline

Publicado por

The Chicago White Sox have placed outfielder Luis Robert Jr. on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain, retroactive to June 26. The move comes after Robert missed three consecutive games and participated in light baseball activities prior to Sunday’s game against the Giants. The timing of the decision suggests the team opted to act quickly to avoid extending his minimum IL stint.

Slumping season and declining trade value

Robert, 27, is enduring the worst offensive season of his career, slashing .185/.270/.313 with 8 home runs and 32 RBIs over 73 games. Despite a career-high 10.2% walk rate and 23 stolen bases, he’s striking out over 30% of the time and showing diminished power. His once-elite defense has also regressed, with just +3 Outs Above Average compared to +13 OAA in 2023.

Trade outlook: complicated but not impossible

Robert’s name has long circulated in trade rumors, but his current form and remaining salary—approximately $7.5 million for the rest of 2025—make a deal challenging. Reports suggest the White Sox may be willing to include cash to facilitate a trade.

Still, his upside remains intriguing. He’s hitting .268/.406/.464 against left-handed pitching, and teams like the Guardians, Braves, Rangers, or Giants—all in need of center field help or lefty mashers—could show interest.

Clock ticking before the deadline of Luis Robert Jr.

With the July 31 trade deadline approaching, Robert must return soon and prove he’s healthy and productive. Even mild hamstring strains can require multiple weeks of recovery. If he’s not back by the All-Star break, the White Sox may struggle to extract value from one of their most talented but inconsistent assets.

In the meantime, Michael A. Taylor, a veteran center fielder signed this offseason, will continue to cover the position.
